In 1505 Jan Franus, draper and burgomaster of the Czech town of Hradec Králové, ordered for himself a large hymn-book. His enlightened investment has come to be regarded as one of the most important sources of Czech vocal polyphony of the Jagellon period. Schola Gregoriana Pragensis has adapted some of the more interesting parts of this unique hymn-book and recorded it in the ideal acoustic of the chapel of St. Wenceslas at the castle of Zvíkov. This new Supraphon project serves not only as an extremelyuseful aid in the study of one of the key sources of mediaeval music in Bohemia but also as a tasty delicacy for all lovers of stylistically authentic performance.
