PAVEL HAAS QUARTET

IS PREPARING A NEW ALBUM FOR SUPRAPHON

In early March, the internationally acclaimed Pavel Haas Quartet departed for a six-stop tour of the USA and Canada. They will delight their audience in Naples, Florida, Napa Valley and San Francisco, California, as well as in the Canadian cities of Calgary and Vancouver. After returning from overseas, the quartet, together with pianist Boris Giltburg, will visit two prestigious venues in the Netherlands at the end of March, namely the Muziekgebouw Frits Philips in Eindhoven and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. After that, the Pavel Haas Quartet will focus all its energy and attention on the preparation and recording of a new album, which will include string quartets by Bohuslav Martinů.

And why Martinů? Violinist Veronika Jarůšková commented on the choice of repertoire: “We have been working on Bohuslav Martinů quartets for 6 years. We have found ourselves in a world of abundant musical richness, influenced by many movements, be it baroque, neoclassicism, folk music or even elements of jazz. And Martinů managed to combine all this into one brilliant format. One could say that this is actually music of our time, often written at an extremely fast tempo, which sometimes seems almost chaotic. But as a whole it is a perfect work.” Cellist Peter Jarůšek adds: “Each of the quartets has its own strong distinctive character, and they are very different from each other. The recording will thus present a very varied musical palette of compositions by one composer. We are very much looking forward to it!”

The album will be recorded during April and May in the legendary Prague Studio Domovina with the participation of the ensemble’s court collaborators – music director Jiří Gemrot and sound master Karel Soukeník. The recording is scheduled for release in autumn 2025, traditionally on the Supraphon label.

In July, fans will have the opportunity to see and hear the Pavel Haas Quartet also in the Czech Republic, namely at the Smetanova Litomyšl festival.
