THE PAVEL HAAS QUARTET HAVE A NEW MEMBER

The internationally acclaimed Pavel Haas Quartet have a new member. Since the spring, the viola position has been occupied by Luosha Fang, a world-renowned violinist and violist of Chinese descent.

The winner of prizes from a number of major international competitions, she has been invited to perform as a soloist with orchestras, yet she is also a seasoned chamber player. Peter Jarůšek said: “We first met Luosha three years ago in Prague. As musicians, we felt immediately there was a spark between us, but, due to our commitments at the time, we went on to pursue separate paths. Paradoxically, the Covid pandemic finally afforded us the opportunity to work together. We are delighted, as it is a true pleasure to make music with Luosha. We look forward to our future projects.”

During the depth of the pandemic, the Pavel Haas Quartet mainly recorded concerts for Czech and foreign music promoters. Now, at long last, the time has come for audiences to be able to see and hear the ensemble live. Over the next few months, the quartet are scheduled to perform primarily at home in the Czech Republic, where they will appear at several significant music events. In July, they will perform within the Smetana’s Litomyšl festival, following which they will give recitals in Hindsgavl, Denmark, at the Viva Musica! festival in Bratislava and the South Bohemia Intermezzi in Borovany. In the autumn, the Pavel Haas Quartet will visit the Lípa Musica festival in Česká Lípa, where they will present in world premiere Ľubica Čekovská’s Domov (Home) and also perform with the pianist Boris Giltburg. The ensemble will subsequently give three performances with Giltburg, a brilliant soloist, who has even created new PHQ official promotional photographs, at the Dvořák Prague International Music Festival. In addition to playing piano quintets, Veronika Jarůšková, Peter Jarůšek and Boris Giltburg will debut in Prague as a piano trio. In October, the Pavel Haas Quartet will again appear at the Schubertiade in Hohenems, Austria. Afterwards they will tour Germany, and also give a concert at their beloved Wigmore Hall in London.
