Jiří Vodička (*1988) is a Czech violin soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic. From an early age, he exhibited the exceptional talent that has carried him to top finishes at international competitions including the title of overall winner at the prestigious Louis Spohr International Competition in Weimar. When Jiří Vodička was just 14 years old, an exception was made to admit him to the studio of Prof. Zdeněk Gola at the University of Ostrava. He finished his studies there in 2007, earning a master’s degree.
He appears regularly as a soloist with many illustrious Czech and foreign orchestras, and he teaches at the Prague Conservatoire and at the University of Ostrava. He has been the concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic since 2015.
In 2014 he recorded his debut solo album “Violino Solo” featuring some of the most difficult works for violin solo. As a chamber musician, he appears with outstanding Czech pianists. “The Trio”, which he founded in 2020, is a successful piano trio. He is invited regularly to important festivals, in 2011 having been invited by the famed violinist Gidon Kremer to the Kammermusikfest in Lockenhaus, Austria. In 2021 he opened the renowned festival Smetana’s
Litomyšl as the soloist, and in 2024, he was the soloist at the Czech Philharmonic New Year’s Concert. He plays an Italian violin made in 1774 by Joseph Gagliano.
